AC Milan won Serie A for the first time in seven years on Saturday as an insipid goalless draw at AS Roma clinched the title with two games to spare and finally ended Inter Milan's long stranglehold on the scudetto.

Milan, in their first season under coach Massimiliano Allegri, took an unassailable nine-point lead over bitter rivals Inter, champions for the last five seasons and the only team who could catch them before the start of the weekend.

Inter host Fiorentina on Sunday and have three matches left but, even if they caught Milan, Leonardo's side would still lose out on their head-to-head record which decides the title if teams finish level on points.

It was Milan's 18th Serie A title, pulling them level with Inter, although they are still nine behind Juventus.

"They gave us up for dead and they thought I was finished," midfielder Gennaro Gattuso told reporters as his team mates celebrated on the pitch at the Stadio Olimpico.

"Allegri deserves a mark of 10, he has been the architect of this success, he has kept the squad closely-knit."

Unheralded Allegri, who until 2008 plied his trade in the lower divisions, was appointed in June after previous club Cagliari sacked him for talking to Milan.

"It's a beautiful moment which has arrived after seven years," added 35-year-old Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf, who was at the club in 2004 but will be out of contract at the end of the season.

"This squad will improve a lot after this win."

Barça put in a sublime performance to take their fourth European Cup by beating Manchester United 3-1 at Wembley tonight . Pedro, Messi and Villa were on target to ensure the team repeated the 1992 Wembley success.

Barça again lifted the European Cup at Wembley after a great performance whish saw the Club claim their fourth European Cup. The team repeated the success of 1992, when the Club took its first European Cup and with goals from the great trio of Messi, Villa and Pedro, they brushed aside the challenge of a competitive Manchester United to win 3-1. 

The first half saw Barça dominate much more than the scoreline might suggest, with Rooney pegging back Pedro’s opener very much against the run of play. Even so, the first 10 minutes of the game recalled the 2006 final, with United coming out of the blocks the stronger, which Barça answered with some solid defending and a gradual development of their trademark possession football. Valdes showed his worth early on with a punch out when Rooney closed in on a Van der Saar clearance.

Messi-Xavi-Iniesta 
After Valdes’ intervention, Barça really began to turn on the style as Xavi, Iniesta and Messi began to combine and there was nothing that Ferguson’s much vaunted tactics could do to stop the trio as they began to put Villa and Pedro into dangerous positions.

Two great strikes 
If the first half was dominated by Barça, then the second was an even more one sided affair as two great goals on 53 and 69 minutes gave Guardiola’s team a well deserved 3-1 lead. Messi hit home a wonderful strike from outside the box to culminate a lovely team move for the second goal and Villa hit a beautiful curling shot home for the third. It wasn’t just those moments of magic that were doing for United though, it was the almost total control that Barça were showing that was silencing the Manchester fans and leaving their team helpless to respond to Guardiola’s men’s domination. 

Back to Wembley and back for a win! 
Koeman’s brilliant free kick gave Barça their first European Cup at Wembley in 1992, but it was the collective play of Guardiola’s team that brought the trophy back this time. The win puts a fantastic end to the double winning season and it was achieved with the team’s trademark domination based on their great understanding and control of possession. United may have won a record 19th league title but skipper Nemanja Vidic insists the Reds won’t stop there.

Speaking after Sunday’s trophy lift at Old Trafford, the Serbian told MUTV that captaining the Reds to league success this season was “a great feeling”. But Vidic wants to taste victory again and again.

“This has been our main target: to win the league and to go above Liverpool,” he said. “But we won’t stop now. We want to improve and get better.

“I was very proud when I was given the captaincy and, I have to say, I’m enjoying this role. But at the end of the year, if you don’t lift the trophy it’s not a great feeling. I’m very glad we’ve won the trophy this year, especially because it’s such an important trophy.”

Vidic admits his time at Old Trafford – he signed on Christmas Day 2005 – has been “a dream” and says the club continues to go from strength to strength.

“To be honest, since I’ve arrived every year has got better and better. It’s amazing. I’ve been here five years and we’ve won the league four times and played in three Champions League finals.

“It’s a dream and to be part of this team, this club, is amazing. We’re getting better and better.”

Michael Owen praised United’s strength in depth after collecting his first Barclays Premier League winner’s medal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Despite starring in the league with Liverpool in the late 90s, Owen never won the competition with the Merseysiders, nor with Newcastle during his spell at St James’ Park before his arrival in Manchester.

Owen may not have been central to United’s success this season but he did make 11 league appearances and score twice (including against Blackpool on the final day) as the Reds marched towards a record 19th title.

“As they say, if you can’t beat them, join them,” he told MUTV, smiling. “I won a lot of trophies with Liverpool but to win the Premier League is the pinnacle of anyone’s career. I’m very proud today.

“I’ve not played as much as I did last year but we all have to play our part to win the league and it’s been enjoyable, nonetheless. I’m really pleased and proud to have played with a great crop of lads and obviously the manager’s second to none.”

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted winning the 19th league title is a special moment in his illustrious career.

The United boss saw his champions round off the campaign with a 4-2 win over Blackpool that means only two points were dropped at home all season.

The goals have flowed at Old Trafford as Sir Alex utilised his squad to great effect with one last match still to come at Wembley next Saturday as Barcelona stand in the way of another Champions League success for the Reds.

"It's special," the manager told MUTV. "This is a particularly special one because it means we've won the title more than anyone in the country.

"It's history and great for the tradition of this club so I'm really pleased about that."

United finished nine points clear at the Barclays Premier League summit with the boss conceding: "It' didn't feel that way a couple of weeks ago!

"The players have been great, there's a great work ethic in the team. I think they deserved it because there were a lot of great performances. I'm dismissing all that nonsense that it's not a great Manchester United team. It's a great feat winning this league.

"I think our target was to do our best. Yes, we've had some disappointing games away from home but the home form has been fantastic. Another four goals today, seven against Blackburn, five against Birmingham and we've beaten
