Southampton FC have released stylish new home and away kits for the coming season. The strips are the first to be produced from their new partnership with adidas but might ruffle some fan feathers down on the South coast.
Saints are a team with big ambitions and an even bigger budget due to being bought by the Swiss liebherr family four years ago. After two succesive promotions and a what can only be seen as a succesful return to the Premiership (they stayed up), the new kit deal with adidas reflects the vision their chairman Nicola Cortese has for the club. But omitting the famous red and white stripes completely is quite a statement and one that may not go down too well.
The kit itself is sleek, stylish and of the quality we've come to expect from an adidas kit. The home shirt, which is made from climacool fabric, is mostly red with three stripes on the shoulders and white diagonal arm bands that give a slight nod to the kits of yesteryear. The shorts are again red with three stripes down the side and the socks red and white stripes.
The Saints badge and adidas logo are both gold and stitched on rather than printed which give the shirt a premium feel. The Away kit is similar in design but mostly black and loses the white arm bands, opting for an deep white V-neck instead. Although nice looking it does remind us a bit of a New Zealand All Blacks rugby shirt.
Last year Southampton's Kit, which was produced by Umbro, opted for a mostly red home shirt with white pin stripes and the fans have been crying out for return to tradition ever since. Ignoring the fans may not make Cortese popular but he's done things his way since he arrived at the club and so far it's worked.
Sacking Alan Pardew was a controversial decision that turned out to be a stroke of genius and replacing Nigel Adkins with Mauricio Pochettino looks set to be the right decision too, although the jury's still out on that one.
Maybe they are teeing up a big return for the Stripes next summer, then again maybe the club see this as a new era for the Saints and with it comes a new look. Whilst they might not look traditional they'll certainly look stylish whatever happens next season.
What do you think of the kit that Saints will be marching in with next season? Let us know.
Next season will mark a new era for Everton Football Club - A new manager, a new captain and now a new kit. Nike have revealed the Toffees' new home shirt for the next chapter of the club's history, a classic design which is unmistakably Everton.
The shirt has undergone a few changes since last season including the introduction of a retro white collar, which replaces the v-neck design and an extra hoop is added to the sleeves. Martinez's men kick off their season away to Norwich before hosting West Brom at Goodison Park a week later where they'll be kitted up in the new home shirt.
The 2013/14 campaign will be Everton's second season with Nike after previously using Le Coq Sportif and Umbro. Everton are one of four Premier League teams to be wearing Nike next season along with both Manchester clubs and Arsenal.
Tech wise the shirt features Nike's Dri-Fit technology, which is designed to draw sweat away from the body to keep players cool. The shirt is a more tailored and athletic fit as a result of Nike running a pioneering programme to create 3D body scans of some of the world's leading players, so if you're not a fan of tight fit clothing go a size up. Nike have also managed to shed the shirt down to just 150g, that's 23% lighter than previous kits.
The shorts are plain white with a royal blue swoosh and Everton crest and match up with white socks featuring another royal blue swoosh and blue tips at the top to round off the typical Everton look. A decent look for Everton next season but we still reckon Fellaini and Baines will be wearing a different Nike kit come August...
The new Nike Everton Home Kit is available to pre-order now from selected online stockists ahead of its full launch on July 24.
Messi will kick off his ninth (yes, ninth!) season as an adidas athlete wearing a new pair of signature f50 adizero football boots. Succeeding Messi's previous exclusive design launched earlier this year, the new boots arrive as the second instalment to Leo's new signature series from adidas.
For Messi's first boots of the 2013/14 season, adidas have cooked up something special for their f50 superstar. Lets face it, why have a signature line if you're not going to deliver something different? We can't accuse adidas of playing it safe. In the same vein as Messi's last boots, adidas give us a design unlike anything before.
Messi's new kicks offer a bubble gum flavoured blend of 'Turbo/Purple/White' and if that's not enough, they come with Messi's signature branding on the inside and heel. The graphic elements take inspiration from strokes of light - a concept born from Messi's ability to "light up the pitch".
Signature lines are designed to connect the athlete to the consumer. The team at adidas have worked closely with Messi to develop a range that represents his personality and playing style. Andreas Konrads, Senior Product Manager, adidas Football said; "Each time we meet up with him more creative sparks ignite and ideas come to life. We will continue to push boundaries to remain at the forefront, just like Leo."
For Messi's new signature adizero boots, adidas retain the key design DNA of the f50 while giving them points of difference. The bright and bold graphic of the boots is designed on a Sprintskin Dualmax upper - just 1.5mm thick - with an exclusive leather grain optic and 3D printed texture, separating them from the standard f50 adizero synthetic.
To have your own product line at adidas is a rare accolade. Messi, Beckham and NBA star Derrick Rose are all adidas athletes worthy of the honour. "To have your own signature series is almost like joining the adidas Hall of Fame", explained Andreas Konrads. As Messi kicks off his bid to become a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, the Barca man certainly won't go unnoticed lining up alongside Nike superstar Neymar.
The new adidas f50 adizero Messi football boots are available to pre-order now at selected online stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer, ahead of their 01/08/2013 shipping date.
A number of new kits this summer have been described as a little bit too safe but the same can't be said about Marseille's new away kit. It's a pretty bold move designing a denim look shirt complete with denim stitched pocket but that's exactly what adidas have created for the Ligue 1 side to wear on their travels next season...
To explain the thinking behind the shirt adidas have released a video featuring a man as controversial as the kit itself - Joey Barton. The loveable on-loan midfielder received a lot of grief for double deniming up last season and if he stays at the Stade Velodrome he'll be sporting his denim look on pitch too.
The man guilty of this footballing fashion crime is the incredibly named Bob Le Blobb. Yep, Bob Le Blobb. Amazing. The Blobbster is a popular tattoo artist amongst the Marseille players and he's designed the new logo which features on the sleeve of the shirt.
With the help of Marseille players Andre-Pierre Gignac, Steve Mandanda and Barton, Le Blobb came up with a design of which Barton said “It shows exactly what I would visualise as being a Marseille fan - Marseille in the heart. The passion and the (adopts French accent) fever (returns to scouse) for this football club from the fans is incredible. It's a special place to play football and I feel very privileged to play in.”
If you take the pocket away it's not actually that bad. Don't get us wrong, it would still be bad but at least it would look more like a football shirt. Either way you'd be a brave man to wear it with jeans. So yeah, denim, what do you reckon to that?
The new adidas Marseille away shirt is available now from online stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer.
Nike have unveiled their first attempt at FC Anji's Home Kit. After their 3rd place in the Russian Premier League last season, the ambitious young team are looking to step into a new era with their bright and bold new strip.
With Gus Hiddink at the reins and Cameroon striker Samuel Eto as captain, the club certainly look like they're going places. A new Nike kit deal only adds to their show of ambition and it's got be said the traditional yellow and green home shirt looks the business.
The kit design features a traditional combination of green and yellow that Nike says reflect the values of the club while displaying a contemporary aesthetic to match their new ultra-modern stadium. The jersey has a dynamic cut shaped by innovative 3-D body scans for a perfect fit. The half-round collar and cuffs lend a fresh look to the kit and the yellow shorts with green stripes complete the look and Yellow socks.
“The new kit incorporates the best Nike innovations to help athletes enhance their performance on the pitch. Many years` experience of working with the world`s top clubs helps us constantly improve our product,” says General Manager of Nike Russia Jim Reynolds. “We`re glad to offer our new product to FC Anji.”
FC Anji was founded in 1991 and is one of the fastest-growing clubs in the world. Last season, the club won its first RPL bronze medal. In 2011 the club were purchased by Dagestani Billionaire Suleyman Kerimov and have since gone from strength to strength.
The club have made a host of lucrative signings in recent years, most noticeably that of Samuel Eto'o who they bought for €28 Million from Inter Milan and is on a record breaking €20.5 million annual salary. A club on the up and looking good in the process.
A fan of FC Anji's new home strip?
Nike have done their best to try and rework the never changing Celtic home shirt - the same shirt that's been designed with horizontal green and white stripes since 1903. That's a whole lot of history you don't want to mess with. So where have Nike taken their sixth Celtic home uniform?
Well as far as Celtic home strips go, it's rather nice and there's even a story to go with it. Nike's latest design puts a new spin on Celtic's iconic green hoops, with each hoop made up of seven smaller hoops. A concept inspired by some of the club's greatest players such as Jimmy Johnstone and Henrik Larsson, who wore the No. 7 shirt.
After a momentous 125th anniversary campaign - notable for a stunning Champions League victory over Barcelona, qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League and a domestic League and SFA Cup double - the Glasgow giants have a new contemporary on-field look for next season.
The shirt features a modern crossover V-neck collar, and a woven label inside the neck features a quote from former Chairman Robert Kelly: “This Celtic Football Club is much more than a football club. To a lot of people it’s a way of life.”
The shorts are white with a green stripe down each side, and the white home socks feature the new hoop design with seven fully engineered thinner hoops as in the shirt.
The new shirt also brings with it a new sponsor. This season will be the first since 1999 in which Celtic don't share a unified shirt sponsorship deal with Rangers. Celtic and Rangers previously shared a joint sponsorship agreement with Glasgow-based larger brand Tennents, but earlier this year Celtic announced a three-year deal with Irish cider brand Magners. Lets just say they know their target market.
The new Celtic Home Kit 2013 by Nike is available to pre-order now from selected online stockists ahead of its full launch on July 4. A fan of Celtic's new home strip? Let us know what you think.
A day after smashing their club record transfer fee on Andy Carroll West Ham United have unveiled their new adidas home shirt for the forthcoming 2013/14 Premier League season.
As soon as the Hammers' big number 9 had signed his contract to make his loan move from Liverpool permanent he was roped in to model the new adidas home kit, which takes over from the previous Macron kit. The fee for Carroll is believed to be around £15 million or, if you like, the same price as 300,000 new shirts.
The 3 stripes feature on the famous claret and blue shirts for the first time since 1987 and adidas have incorporated a small white collar on the shirt combining with a blue v-neck. Claret trims are placed on the cuffs of the blue sleeves to ensure the shirt is classic West Ham United.
Adidas manufactured West Ham’s kit for their best-ever league finish in the 1985/86 campaign and some of the greatest players ever to wear the West Ham United kit did so whilst donning the three stripes, including Sir Trevor Brooking, Billy Bonds and Tony Cottee.
The shorts and socks are both predominantly white with claret adidas stripes and blue details. Hammers fans will be glad to see the back of Macron who churned out some pretty average kits over the last three seasons and we reckon shirt sales will no doubt increase with the help of a big brand on board.
The capture of West Ham means that adidas now manufacture the kits for 9 of the 20 Premier League clubs with the Hammers joining Fulham and Southampton as the latest additions to the adidas family. Decent kit overall but it's still hard to believe that Carroll is not only the British transfer record but has now swapped hands for £50 million. Fifty million pounds. Quite a lot isn't it.
The new adidas West Ham 2013/14 home shirts will be available to order from selected online stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer.
