Even with the best the MLS had to offer, Manchester United thrashed the MLS All-Stars for the second year running. However, the 4-0 scoreline doesn't truly reflect the events at the Red Bull Arena... The 4-0 result will raise eyebrows, and many will feel it once again shows the difference in quality between the Premier League and MLS. But to be fair to the MLS All-Stars, they acquitted themselves well against Manchester United with even Ferguson admitting they were the more dangerous side.
In front of a sold-out crowd of 26,760, English Premier League champions eased past the MLS All-Stars with precision passing and individual creativity. Anderson began the scoring rout after a clever build-up, Ji-Sung Park produced a moment of brilliance to double the score, Dimitar Berbatov pounced on his own rebound before a deflected shot from Welbeck finally wrapped up scoring.
It was rather disappointing for All-Stars skipper David Beckham facing his old team, who tried hard enough and went close on a couple of occasions, including a curling free-kick that crashed into the side-netting near the end, but he lacked sufficient support.
Star of the show was Manchester United midfielder Ji-Sung Park who picked up the MVP award, and as usual it was his industry that won the plaudits. Park's hard work and relentless effort made the biggest impression, which was perhaps more vital to the Red Devils' overall team performance than his first-half goal. His constant movement both centrally and out wide creating a headache for the All-Star back line.
Another player to have caught the eye was Thierry Henry, who looks to have confirmed his move into Puma football boots. After Henry was spotted in Puma King Finale's, we were intrigued to see what boots he would wear for the MLS All-Star game. Not only did Henry continue to wear the King Finale's, but he also changed into a new colourway for the game, a clear indication his Reebok days are over perhaps.
It was a great show-piece event which maintained United's 100% record, although the stiffest test is still to come, against a Barcelona side that defeated them so conclusively in last season's Champions League final.
